UNR vs SAN  99 - 11

The Pits - Q2DM5

UNR's previous match against SAN on this level was a very hard game, with us achieving a narrow victory. SAN showed they had practised the level and were ready for us. This time around we were determined to not make the same mistakes as last time :)

Unfortunately the match was marred by SAN having to play 90% of the match with only 3 players :( Bear that in mind when looking at the scores.

UNR had 2 backups available so when Spawnys connection died we were able to sub Diabolic in :)

UNR took early control of the key areas of the map, the quad, the red armour and the RL. Once we established control of these areas some vicious fighting went on to keep them.

Lots of action around the SSG crossroads - Insomniak, Luke and, after Spawny had to drop, Diabolic watching over the area :)

Luke as ever had impeccable timing of the Quad - let's hope his chess clock never breaks down :P

Tasan, who gives himself the toughest assignments, took care of the RL and GL area. He came under heavy assault most of the game and coped well, calling for assistance on only 2 occasions I believe.

Yours truly held down the Red Armour location for much of the game, having a bit of an easy ride 'cos I had masses of armour most of the time .

With D roving around sticking his oar in where necessary :P we started to rack up the frags. SAN, weapon starved, were fairly easy targets for fully equipped players :(

A good victory, well played UNR.

Unlucky SAN, the team who originally showed us we had some weaknesses on DM5. Thanks for the original inspiration to improve our game on this level :)

Stuff from the demo :

Luke chasing any SAN player foolish enough to nick his Quad..the little sod chases their quad doods around and doesn't die doing it ..lucky git :P

Insomniak being blasted to death by 2 SAN doods in the RA room ..lol.

Diabolic - some ace prediction there dood - loved the blind shot up the ladder from the water to get the frag :)

UNR vs FED   107 - 69

The Edge - Q2DM1

FED are a relatively new clan with some excellent players. The recent addition of Mentalist and dogboy to their line up has strenghtened the team enormously. We went into this match knowing the quality of opposition would be high!

FED got off to a fast start, grabbing the lower RL and the railer first. They took an early 8 - 3 lead but on DM1 there is always opportunity to break map control and comeback.

A few minutes into the game UNR were In position and coming back. The scores remaining even until we gained comlete control of the weapons for a few minutes. This coupled with a short burst of amazing play by Luke around the railer allowed us to pull ahead by about 15 frags.

As always it was mayhem around the bowl area. Our glorious leader Tas was da man on da spot. He came under heavy assault for much of the game. Grabbing weps where he could and dishing them out to the rest of us he kept a fair degree of control down here.

Spawny had lotsa probs around the Railer. This is FED's favourite weapon and he always had unwanted company :( He stood his ground valiantly under awkward conditions.

Soon after we took control of the map, with the scores at 44 - 28 to UNR, FED Tiberius' connection finally got the better of him. He dropped in favour of FED Crazyface. There was some confusion over the joincode which had changed as a result of a false countdown. During a match, with the pressure on, 45 seconds with a man down can seem like 5 minutes :(

We kept good control over the map until the last few minutes. A little relaxation on our part and some really excellent work by Mentalist brought FED a little closer to us and gave them the bowl area. A warning to other clans here ....NEVER RELAX COS FED DON'T GIVE UP !!!

A good tough game played in a friendly but serious atmosphere . It was marred only by the FED player dropping for a short time :(

Well played UNR :)

Stuff from the demo:

FED Blokey attempting the tricky chaingun jump to the megahealth...lol. We've all done it mate :)

Mentalists run of frags at the end of the match - played dood :)

Insomniak lagged in the bowl decides to STAND STILL to get his rail shot off - need I say more ? Doh !! (good news, the lads took a vote and i'm still in the clan).

Tasans control over the bowl - superb stuff in the demo.

Much repect to Blokey - Fed's top scorer and an HPB to boot. Well played.

UNR vs NME   118 - 23

Lava Tomb - Q2DM6

The first time we played NME they taught us a valuable (and painful) lesson in the necessity of level control. No matter how skilled you are if you ain't got a weapon u ain't gonna hurt anyone. We also found out what happens if you neglect weapons you don't like using.

These lessons were repeated by CFH on DM6 a few weeks later...

In the last few weeks we have worked hard to improve the level control and teamplay aspects of our game. The two Q2CL matches played Wednesday night were the test of our new approach.

The game against NME started very closely, Tas go the first quad but NME responded, taking the BFG.

Fragging was all square for the first few minutes, then NME pulled out a 14 - 9 lead after 5 minutes and looked to have control of the map. I must admit I was a little worried at this point...DM6 is the NME map selection.

At 6 minutes gone Luke took control of the quad and Tas took and held the BFG with some excellent rails. The scores were 14 all and [NME]SPOG (observing) said 'UNR have the map'. He was right :)

From here UNR had complete control of the map. NME were starved of weapons and ammo. Luke had near perfect timing on the Quad, losing it to NME only once I think in the last 14 mins of the game...he did blast the NME quad carrier to death as he emerged from the sliding panel so we didn't throw him out of the clan :-P

As Witz says in his report this is an all or nothing map. UNR took it and held it, leaving very little for NME hit back with.

Thanks to NME for a good game. It is Ironic that the clan that showed us some of our short falls should be the first clan at the receiving end of our new look strategies.

Stuff from the demo...

Tasan and Yakumo railing..text book stuff. Yakumo shows why he is the HPB Rail king :)

Luke blasting an injured Killdozer to death as he emerges with the quad..you can almost hear Luke shouting 'Gerroff..It's MINE'

UNR vs RSC   116 - 45

The Edge - Q2DM1

The second match of the evening was UNR vs RSC...a match which presented a slightly different set of problems. We went into the match very aware of the fact that 2 of the RSC players are skilled players with pings of around 30. As such we gave RSC a lot of respect and a certain amount of thought went into our gameplan.

UNR took an early lead, gaining control of the lower and upper RL's. For much of the match yours truly held the upper RL (it must be said against pretty light assault). RSC seemed to miss this weapon out of their gameplan.

As ever on DM1, the bowl got the lions share of the action, keeping Tasan and Luke very busy. Yaku and I put in a couple of cameo appearances, but they were usually to beg, borrow or steal a weapon from Tasan :-P

Plenty of action in the mega health room too. Poor Luke was up against 2 RSC doods most of the time. He responded with some incredible railing here and in the bowl area.I wouldn't like to say who had the best of the health and armour in there...I might start an argument :) Well played RSC...we usually dominate that area completely.

Yaku too came under heavy fire around the rail gun. He coped well with a difficult assignment. Don't know why but LPB's from all clans seem to have an affinity for the railer :-P

With the level pretty much locked down we continued to pull away from RSC until the server was shut down by the BW admin with a minute left to play.

Well played RSC, a good match which was harder for us than the scoreline would suggest.

Stuff from the demo...

2 RSC doods follow Yaku from the railroom into the water...they knew Yaku had a railer on him. You can guess the rest. Moral..Never EVER follow Yaku ;-)

Yaku again..he and an RSC dood jump from a high ledge fighting in mid-air. The RSC dood delivers a nice pineapple to Yaku's head who promptly keels over. Looks great on the demo.

UNR vs SS   85 - 52

The Edge - Q2DM1

Here we are again, the old adversaries UNR & SS. UNR have been beaten by 3 UK clans so far but, imo, no clan gives us such consistently tough games as those lads from SS :)

The match was played on DM1 - our favourite level :)

Teams were Blank, Clitty, Flame and bod for SS.
UNR fielded Tasan, Luke, Yakumo and Diabolic.

As always on DM1 the action centred on the 3 main areas - the 'bowl', the megahealth room and the rear balcony / rail area.

UNR made a reasonable start, Luke scaring an SS player or 2 away from the first megahealth spawn. Confusion struck however when Yaku grabbed the first spawn of the lower RL and started firing rockets at Diabolic and Luke. Rude (observing) soon pointed out his mistake !!! I must say in Yaku's defence I have not always been sure who I'm firing at at the start of the Q2CL games..maybe admin should ensure everyone is certain at the start.

SS made a tactically sound decision by putting clitty, one of their LPB players around the back steps / top RL area. Once he had the railer he was very difficult to dislodge from here. As Diabolic (covering the same area for UNR) said - I was outpinged, outprocessored and outplayed....well D, outpinged - ok, outprocessored - dunno, outplayed - definitely :)

UNR very quickly took the lead, and pretty much dominated the map for the first half of the match. Towards the middle, however, clitty and his railgun opened up more opportunities for the other SS players to get stuck in, which they did :) It's difficult to tell from the demo's clitty's 'railgun roving' may have been a deliberate tactical change. It enabled SS to disrupt Luke and Tas's control of their areas enough to unbalance us.

The 3rd quarter saw SS cut down our lead slightly, stopping our run frags. This wasn't enough to make a big impact on the lead we had built I the first half of the game. With both teams scoring fairly evenly in the final quarter UNR took the victory.

Well played UNR, another hard fought victory. Commiseration's to SS who, as always, made it bloody hard for us ;) You buggers :P

Stuff in the demos'..
The demo's were a little barren of anything out of the ordinary but here goes...

Yaku shooting at UNR players ..Doh !

Diabolic..The poor dood had a nightmare game. Checking the demo the dood just gets no breaks for most of the game :(

Clitty's railing and general play -icy, very icy :)
